Faculty Mentoring Program

Who Mentored You?

Kathryn A. Lee, PhD, RN, FAAN

I was mentored (and still am) by Dr. Kathryn A. Lee in the Department of Family Health Care Nursing. Not only did Dr. Lee recruit me she did everything she could to assure a relationship that helped me adjust and succeed in the UCSF environment. I was rather intimidated at the thought of coming to UCSF from a rather small New England state university. However, Dr. Lee became my official UCSF mentor and through a careful and thoughtful process worked with me to build a program of research, disseminate findings, and develop university relationships that would foster my success. I quickly learned that her office was a safe place to air ideas, question assumptions, and obtain honest advice. Her guidance has always been on target and I have been successful. However, I attribute much of that success to her availability to me and her willingness to foster opportunities for growth and learning. I could consider myself extraordinarily fortunate to have been invited to UCSF and then to have the gentle, caring, inspiring, and sound mentoring that I received from Dr. Lee. All new assistant professors should have this kind of support!! Thank you Dr. Lee!
