Faculty Mentoring Program

Who Mentored You?

Robert A. Hiatt, MD, PhD

For ten years, I had the privilege and honor to work alongside Bob Hiatt. Abundantly generous in sharing his knowledge of science, public health, research methods, and grantsmanship, under his guidance I learned to develop, fund, implement, and efficiently manage large clinical trials. What was most important in this process was the freedom and encouragement I was given to explore not only the types of studies that appealed to Bob but to pursue entirely different directions that now define my own research program. I have enjoyed an incredible degree of success in obtaining NIH funding, and I attribute this to the skills I obtained directly from Bob, and the confidence I developed as a direct result of his confidence in me. One could not ask for more.
