Proposed Changes in UC Academic Personnel Policy

Recent Changes in UC Academic Personnel Policy

Effective October 1, 2009, the following Academic Personnel Policy revisions have been issued:

  • APM-110-4, Academic Personnel Definitions: The section is modified to add a definition of "domestic partner" to academic personnel definitions. This definition is consistent with the one found in Personnel Policies for Staff Members (PPSM), Section 2.  http://www.ucop.edu/acadadv/acadpers/apm/apm-110.pdf
  • APM-230-17,Visiting Appointments: The revisions to this section allow for a total period of consecutive service not to exceed three years for appointees in the Visiting Assistant Professor Programs in Mathematics. This change puts into policy the "standing" exception to the time limitation on visiting appointments which is driven by Mathematics curricular issues. http://www.ucop.edu/acadadv/acadpers/apm/apm-230.pdf
  • APM-279-20, Clinical Professor Series, Volunteer Series: The change in the title of this section to "Conditions of Appointment" is made to reflect that appointees in this series are volunteers.  http://www.ucop.edu/acadadv/acadpers/apm/apm-279.pdf
  • APM-360-80-a, Librarian Series: Changes are made to this section to set forth normal periods of service for Librarians at each rank and step that are consistent with those set forth for unit members in the MOU between the University of California and University Council – American Federation of Teachers for the Professional Librarian Unit.  http://www.ucop.edu/acadadv/acadpers/apm/apm-360.pdf
  • APM-520-4, Employment of Near Relatives: This section is changed to add "child of a domestic partner (same sex or opposite sex)" to the definition of near relative. http://www.ucop.edu/acadadv/acadpers/apm/apm-520.pdf
  • APM-765, Death Payments: This is a new APM section added to implement Section 103.8 of the Standing orders of The Regents (Death Benefit), and to clarify eligibility criteria for academic appointees. The section is consistent with PPSM, Section 83 (Death Payments).  http://www.ucop.edu/acadadv/acadpers/apm/apm-765.pdf
